For the 14th edition of the Taipei Biennial, Whispers on the Horizon, Nari Ward presents Sound System (2025), a sculpture made of green marble.
Ward describes the piece, stating: “Like mineral deposits slowly building deep within stone, the sound system layered echoes, voices, and vibrations over time, each bass drop, each toasting shout, a crystal forming in the sonic landscape. These layers created a dense archive of cultural memory, a kind of aural geology where history, resistance, and joy were trapped and preserved in rhythm.”
On view at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, the exhibition is curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, Directors of the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, Berlin.
