Online Viewing Room
For KIAF Art Seoul’s inaugural online edition, Lehmann Maupin will present
new and historical works by leading women artists Lee Bul, Mandy El-Sayegh, Tracey Emin, Teresita Fernández, Shirazeh Houshiary, Chantal Joffe, Klara Kristalova, and Alex Prager. Featuring a range of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, and works on paper, this presentation highlights these artists’ commitment to defying traditional formal and conceptual practices and sociopolitical constructs.
Interweaving autobiographical elements into the formalist rigor of abstraction, Mandy El-Sayegh and Shirazeh Houshiary build surfaces in their work that simultaneously embrace and challenge the narrative of modernist painting while creating a strong sense of depth and dimension. El-Sayegh’s work is featured prominently in the Busan Biennial 2020, which coincides with KIAF Art Seoul, while paintings by Houshiary will be included in the inaugural presentation at Lehmann Maupin London on October 5.
