Tracey Emin Turns Poet for Season Two of Daata Editions

By Nicholas Forrest

Tracey Emin has turned poet for Season Two of Daata Editions’ series of commissioned digital artworks, creating six new spoken word artworks for the site. Founded in 2015,  Daata Editions is an online platform for the sale of easily downloadable video, sound, web and poetry art editions.

Emin’s Season Two commission for the new Poetry section of Daata Editions is a new series of six highly personal poetry works that explore what is described as “how sound can express essential emotions”. Each work consists of a sound file of Emin reading a new poem that she has written.

The titles of Emin’s poems include “Feel Your Touch,” “I Can’t Live Anymore, and “I Lay Here.” In “I Lay Here,” Emin reads: “I lay here/ with my head buried in the pillow/ I love you/ I want you/ to love me/ you love me/ your head/ buried/ deep inside of me”

Other artists commissioned for Season Two include Jake Chapman, Jacolby Satterwhite, Casey Jane Ellison, and Rashaad Newsome, Jon Rafman, Larry Achiampong, Scott Reeder, Michael Manning, Jonathan Monaghan, Sara Ludy, and Quayola to name a few.

For Season Two, Daata Editions has also invited guest curators to select specially curated sections in the Sound, Web, and Poetry sections, with guest curators including Gutter Records, bitforms gallery, New Contemporaries, and Zata Banks/PoetryFilm.

The works by the 18 artists commissioned for Season One are available for sale on the website in editions of 15, with 3 set aside for philanthropy. For Season Two, Daata Editions has commissioned 42 artists to create a total of 157 artworks

The first set of editions by Tracey Emin, Jacolby Satterwhite, Michael Manning and Rashaad Newsome will be released to coincide with the opening of NADA and Frieze New York on May 5, 2016, with works available online from $100.
