Juergen Teller: Enjoy Your Life!

December 15, 2016 – March 19, 2017

Juergen Teller first came to fame in 1991 with his portraits of the band Nirvana and their frontman Kurt Cobain. For the wider public he is mostly known for his work in the fashion industry. He owes his unmistakeable signature style to the creative freedom he has won, even when working for commercial clients. Despite their seemingly random manner his works are based on precise planning and staging, similar to film production. Snapshot quality and the imperfect beauty of these images hide a meticulous and consistent work with photographed protagonists and/or the featured places. For his until now unpublished series Mit dem Teller nach Bonn (With Teller to Bonn), Teller was granted exclusive access to photograph in the Chancellor’s Bungalow, the iconic residential building of the German federal government. Other motifis include works that act as of photographic diary, which the artist took in 2014 when Germany won the World Cup. Personal passions, intimacy, banality and uniqueness have intertwined in Teller’s work since the beginning of the nineties and continue to surprise viewers today.

Juergen Teller: Enoy Your Life was co-organized by Bundeskunsthalle Bonn; Galerie Rudolfinum, Prague; and Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin. For each venue, the has adapted the exposition according to the individual location. Galerie Rudolfinum will present the largest selection of photographs together with a series of videos from past years. A catalogue was published for all institutions and with texts by prominent art theoreticians as well as the artist himself together with reproductions of exhibited works.
