You & Me, Sometimes...
Curated by Sandra Antelo-Suarez/TRANS

March 20 – May 3, 2008
201 Chrystie Street

The New Yorker

Francisco de Goya and Karin Schneider. Alexander
Calder and Tim Rollins + K.O.S. The participants
in this show range across art history, although
the press release treats it as a gathering
of old friends, who share the same views on war
and social injustice. Goya's "Los Caprichos" acquatints
converse freely with Calder's cutout figures
titled "Buy War Bonds" and Fabian Marcaccio's
creepy sculpture made from fake U.S.
dollars. The commitment to keeping the social
and historical dialogues open is best made by
Dave McKenzie's simple text painting that states,
"This painting is a proposal. I propose we meet
once a year every year until one of us can't or
won't." Through May 3. (Lehmann Maupin, 201
Chrystie St. 212-254-0054.)
