Press Release

Lehmann Maupin Gallery
6-9 December 2007
Art Basel Miami Beach
Hall D, Booth F13

Lehmann Maupin is pleased to dedicate its entire booth at Art Basel Miami Beach to the female artists represented by the gallery. New work by Lee Bul, Tracey Emin, Teresita Fernandez, Anya Gallaccio, Shirazeh Houshiary, Jennifer Steinkamp, Adriana Varejao, and Suling Wang will all be on view.

Following Tracey Emin's successful representation of Great Britain at the 52nd Venice Biennale, Lehmann Maupin will exhibit a series of watercolors, embroideries and works on paper as well as a new neon titled "You Can't Take Care of My Mind." These subtle self-portraits and simple line drawings illustrate Emin's technical skills and their importance in her body of work.

Among intricate and beautiful works of Lee Bul on view are those created from mother of pearl inlaid in pristine white fields. Her innovative aesthetic will also be featured at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in a retrospective that opens in 15 November 2007.

Shirazeh Houshiary will present a series of works on paper as well as new paintings. The paintings will be representative of Houshiary's continued interest in form, light and space achieved through meticulous layers and fine markings.

In a new wall sculpture titled Double Cameo, Teresita Fernandez uses onyx and marble to continue her explorations into transparency and the psychology of looking. Fernández is the youngest artist commissioned by the Seattle Art Museum for the recently opened Olympic Sculpture Park and is currently working on a commission for LVMH.

Jennifer Steinkamp has created a special installation titled "Oculus Sinister" for this presentation in Miami. Based on her commission for the Getty Museum, Steinkamp uses this smoke imagery, much like the falling cloths of her Formation series, to explore the revelation of the invisible by the virtual. Steinkamp's continued investigations into individual perceptions will be on view at the Albright Knox Gallery in Buffalo as part of her retrospective opening in March 2008.

Additional works by Mickalene Thomas, Suling Wang, Anya Gallaccio and Adriana Varejao will also be on view. For more information please visit our website, www.lehmannmaupin.com, or contact the gallery at 212 255 2923 or info@lehmannmaupin.com.
