Street Views: Jennifer Steinkamp

October 11 – December 29, 2013

This fall the work of pioneering digital media artist Jennifer Steinkamp inaugurates CAM’s Street Views series, a new exhibition series of large-scale video art that will be projected onto the museum’s Washington Boulevard facade. Often incorporating lush, nature-based imagery, Steinkamp’s digital video animations alter architectural spaces, taking viewers beyond the physical boundaries of a built environment to contemplate their surroundings in new ways. Using powerful video projectors and a complex computer algorithm, Steinkamp’s installation at CAM will transform the museum’s characteristic crisp lines into a dynamic curtain of undulating flowers and leaves, creating a digital garden among the metal and concrete of the building.

Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of CAM’s building in fall 2013, Steinkamp’s installation and the ongoing exhibition series itself will literally turn the museum inside-out, transforming the facade into a gallery and providing a new perspective on the structure. Steinkamp’s work will be on view from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM every evening during its run.
