Lehmann Maupin would like to announce an exhibition of new paintings by David Salle. This will be Salle's second solo exhibition at Lehmann Maupin.

The exhibition will consist of five large multi-paneled paintings. In this group of work, Salle incorporates computer-generated imagery for the first time along with images appropriated from art history and recurring elements from his own oeuvre. The erotic nudes of Salle's earlier work return to a more prominent role than in his paintings of the last several years. By juxtaposing seemingly unrelated images, Salle constructs complex and fragmented narratives that deny any one interpretation. A series of small flower paintings will also be included in the exhibition.

David Salle was born in Norman, Oklahoma in 1952. He received both his BFA and MFA from California Institute of the Arts. Salle's work has been exhibited in numerous international exhibitions, including solo shows at such venues as the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. His work is included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Guggenheim Museum, New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., and the Tate Gallery, London, among many others. He lives and works in Sagaponack, New York.
