Adriana Varejão

Biography

Adriana Varejão (b. 1964, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) Adriana Varejão’s work has been included in exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2001); the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2002); the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2002); the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art, Paris (2005); the Guggenheim Museum, New York (2007); and the Hara Museum, Tokyo, Japan (2007). Varejão participated in the first Liverpool Biennial of Contemporary Art (1999); the Johannesburg Biennial (1995); and the São Paulo Biennial (1998).

The artist’s recent exhibitions include El Gabinete Blanco at the Fundación/Colección Jumex (2010); Novas Aquisiçoesat the Museo de Arte Contemporanea de Niteroi (2010); Paralela 2010// A Contemplação do Mundo at the Liceu de Artes e Oficios de Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Lei da Selva curated by Tiago Carneiro da Cunha at Lehmann Maupin Gallery (2010). Varejao’s work can currently be seen in Mappamundi at the Fundação de Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Lisbon, Portugal through the end of April 2011. Upcoming exhibitions include Gigante pela própria natureza at the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderna, Valencia, Spain and a solo exhibition at Lehmann Maupin gallery in 2012.
